London, 27 October 2025 – Belle Health AI Technologies Ltd, a femtech innovator, today announced the launch of an initiative to partner with the NHS in piloting the first digital therapeutic for Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD). This solution – the Belle DTx app – is designed to support women suffering from severe premenstrual mood disorders with clinically validated, personalized therapy. By offering to collaborate on early NHS pilots, Belle Health aims to bridge the care gap for a condition that affects millions yet has historically been overlooked.

PMDD: A Critical Women’s Health Challenge. Approximately 1 in 20 women suffer from PMDD – a prevalence comparable to diabetes in the female population – but far less recognized . Those affected endure extreme mood swings, depression, and anxiety tied to their menstrual cycle, often leading to disrupted daily life and even suicidal ideation. Despite its severity, PMDD typically goes undiagnosed for years (on average a 12-year diagnostic journey) , leaving patients without adequate support and contributing to an estimated 1,400 lost days of productivity and wellbeing over a lifetime . This launch comes as the NHS’s Women’s Health Strategy has identified premenstrual conditions like PMDD as priority areas, emphasizing that these conditions “should not be overlooked, and women suffering with PMS and PMDD deserve more support” .

An Innovative Digital Therapeutic, Now Available for NHS Collaboration. Belle’s solution – the Belle app – delivers a guided program of psychoeducation, symptom tracking, and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) exercises tailored for PMDD. Users can monitor symptoms alongside hormonal cycles, access guided coping techniques, and receive personalized insights for managing their condition. The app has been developed with scientific rigor: it is clinically validated through an ongoing landmark trial with the University of Marburg and Nuremberg (Germany) and Utah State University, studying the effectiveness of app-based CBT for premenstrual disorders . “Belle is not just an app; it’s a lifeline born from our own experiences with PMDD and backed by research,” says Victoria Schoeffel, co-founder and CEO of Belle Health. “After years of development, we are proud to offer the NHS a tool that can transform how we care for premenstrual health.” Notably, the Belle Dtx app is CE marked in the EU as a medical device and is preparing for UKCA marking under the UK Medical Devices Regulations 2002 overseen by the MHRA. We are also aligning with NHS DTAC, confirming high standards of safety, effectiveness, and data protection.

Alignment with NHS Priorities. Belle Health’s initiative directly supports several NHS priorities. It addresses a core goal of the NHS Long Term Plan: to deploy digitally-enabled care for better patient outcomes . By providing an app that women can use at home, Belle enables preventive, self-managed care – easing pressure on GP and specialist services while improving patients’ quality of life. The app’s focus on a historically underserved condition also resonates with Core20PLUS5, NHS England’s framework for reducing health inequalities. Women with PMDD have often felt ignored by a system “designed by men for men,” a gap now being acknowledged at national levels. “Our mission at Belle is to ensure no woman is left behind in the healthcare system,” Schoeffel notes. “By partnering with forward-thinking NHS teams, we can demonstrate how digital innovation can finally give PMDD patients the support they’ve long needed – in line with the NHS’s drive to improve women’s health and mental health care.”

Call for NHS Pilot Partners. Starting today, Belle Health is inviting NHS Trusts and primary care networks to collaborate on pilot programs deploying the Belle app with patients. Pilot partners will receive full support including clinician training, patient onboarding materials, and data insights to evaluate outcomes. Dr Carla Wells, Specialty Doctor in Psychiatry, Midlands Partnership NHS Foundation Trust, Stafford, remarked on the app’s potential: “PMDD is an area of huge unmet need. The Belle app offers an accessible, evidence-based intervention that could easily complement existing mental health services. I’m excited to see NHS sites take it forward.” Belle Health will work closely with pilot sites to tailor implementation and ensure integration with NHS care pathways.
