PMDD doesn't have to ambush you.

The luteal week has a pattern. Your sleep collapses three nights before the storm. Your HRV drops. Belle Ring sees it — and tells you, gently, the morning before.

What Belle reads

The earliest tells, before your mood does.

PMDD shows up in the body days before it lands in how you feel. Here are a few of the signals — yours might look slightly different — that Belle watches across the luteal week.

01

HRV slips

Heart rate variability begins drifting down around day 21. Subtle, but consistent across cycles. It's the earliest physiological tell.

−18% avg drop, days 21–25
02

Sleep fractures

Three nights before the storm: more wake-after-sleep-onset, lower sleep efficiency, more 3am wakings. The body knows first.

3 nights forecast lead time
03

Temp climbs late

A persistent post-ovulation temperature rise that doesn't ease — paired with HRV drift, this is the PMDD signature, not PMS.

How Belle Ring handles PMDD

Built for your worst week.

Most rings track sleep, heart rate, activity. Yours is tuned, specifically, for the luteal phase pattern.

01

A forecast and a diary.

Belle Ring is passive. Wear the ring, the forecast arrives — no daily logging, no streaks to keep. Logging in the Belle app is there when you want it, but never required for the pattern to surface.

02

Cycle-aware, not one-size-fits-all.

Your "normal" HRV in luteal is different from your follicular normal. We model both. So a luteal HRV drop reads as luteal — not a bad week.

03

Provider-shareable PDFs.

Export your data as a PDF for your gynecologist or psychiatrist. Timing + physiology + cycle alignment, all together.

04

Built for luteal-phase treatment.

Many PMDD treatments — luteal-only SSRIs, hormonal regimens, herbal protocols — only work if you start them on the right day, not after symptoms hit. Belle's forecast gives you (and your clinician) the cycle-day to start, every cycle, even when your period is irregular.

PMDD-specific questions
Will Belle Ring diagnose my PMDD?
No, on its own, no wearable can — PMDD is a clinical diagnosis made by a qualified provider. But together with the Belle App and symptom tracking, Belle Ring can be one of the most useful tools on the road to getting one. It helps you understand yourself: where you are in the cycle, what your body is doing across the luteal week, and how that maps onto how you actually feel. Over time you arrive at appointments with a clear, cycle-aligned picture instead of trying to remember "was it bad this month?" — and that's often what tips a careful provider toward a diagnosis they would otherwise want more data to make.
I'm on the pill. Does this still work?
Yes — Belle Ring is still useful if you're on hormonal contraception. With a combined pill, ovulation is suppressed and the natural luteal pattern flattens, so instead of a cycle forecast you get a clear view of how your body is actually doing on this formulation: sleep, HRV, recovery, day-to-day mood, and how the active vs placebo week feels for you. For POPs, IUDs and the patch the picture varies, and Belle adapts based on the method you tell it about. Many people first realise their pill isn't quite the right fit by looking at this data.
I'm on SSRIs. Useful?
Yes — SSRIs can really help, and many providers now prescribe luteal-only, low-dose regimens rather than continuous ones. Belle's forecast can help you and your clinician land on the right start day. Beyond medication, the ring also helps you understand yourself better — sleep, stress, recovery — so you can see, in your own data, whether what you try is actually working for you or not.
How many cycles before the forecast is accurate?
It depends a little on your cycle length and how regular things are — but for most people, we have enough signal within a cycle or two to start building a forecast, and the picture sharpens with each cycle that passes. If your cycles are irregular or sometimes anovulatory, give it a bit more time; even before a full forecast lands, the early temperature and HRV trends usually surface patterns that are already useful to see.
What if I don't ovulate every cycle?
Anovulatory cycles are flagged. Belle Ring uses temperature and HRV signatures to detect them, so you can see — and bring to a clinician — when a month didn't ovulate.
Can I share data with my therapist?
Yes — and that's becoming one of the most useful parts of Belle Ring. You decide with whom you share, when, and for how long: a clinician, a partner, a friend who tracks alongside you, or nobody at all. We're working closely with a growing network of therapists, psychiatrists and gynaecologists to learn which views actually help in a session — pain timing, mood-by-cycle-day, sleep collapse around luteal — and shaping the export so it's the page a 50-minute appointment can actually use. If your provider isn't in our network yet, you can still share a tidy PDF or a private link they can read on their own time.
