FSA/HSA: what you’re actually paying for
If you paid for Belle with your FSA or HSA card, your receipt probably says “PMDD Course” — even if you thought you were buying the Belle+ subscription. Here’s what’s actually happening, why, and what you get either way.
The short answer
You bought the PMDD Course, which is one of two paid Belle products. It costs roughly the same as a year of Belle+ subscription, and it includes 12 months of Belle+ access bundled in — so you get both, just packaged as one HSA-eligible purchase instead of a recurring subscription.
You’re not missing anything. The line item just looks different on a tax receipt than you might have expected.
Why the receipt says “PMDD Course” and not “Belle+ subscription”
US tax law (IRS Section 213(d)) defines what’s eligible to be paid for with pre-tax FSA / HSA funds. Subscription apps generally aren’t eligible. Medical education and structured therapeutic programs are, because they’re considered medical care.
The PMDD Course qualifies — it’s a 12-week structured program based on PMDD clinical frameworks (PSST and DRSP-anchored). Belle+ subscription, as a recurring app feature, doesn’t qualify by itself.
So when you pay via FSA / HSA, the purchase is structured as the PMDD Course, which is HSA-eligible. To make sure you still get the full Belle+ feature set (PMDD pattern analysis, PDF exports, etc.), the Course bundles in 12 months of Belle+ access at no extra cost. The receipt shows “PMDD Course”; the value is “Course + 12 months Belle+.”
What you actually get
When you buy the PMDD Course (with FSA / HSA or any other payment method):
- The full 12-week guided PMDD program inside the Belle Cycle App
- 12 months of Belle+ premium features (PMDD pattern analysis, doctor-ready PDF reports, CBT toolkit, cycle-aware coaching, priority email support)
- A one-time purchase — does not auto-renew
After 12 months, the Belle+ access expires and you can decide whether to subscribe to Belle+ separately if you want to keep premium features.
Is the PMDD Course right for me if I just wanted Belle+?
If your main reason for paying was the PMDD Course’s structured 12-week program, yes — perfect fit.
If you only wanted the Belle+ subscription features and didn’t realize the Course was bundled, you still get all the Belle+ features for 12 months. The Course content sits inside the app; you can use it or skip it. Either way, you’re not paying more than a Belle+ annual subscription would cost.
If you actively don’t want the Course at all and would rather have a clean Belle+ subscription, see PMDD Course vs Belle+: what’s the difference?. You can request a refund through Apple / Google (see Charged after free trial — refund) and start a fresh Belle+ subscription instead.
Will the HSA / FSA paperwork be OK?
The PMDD Course is structured to qualify as medical education for HSA / FSA purposes. The receipt itemizes the Course; your FSA / HSA administrator should accept it as standard medical expense documentation.
If your administrator needs more detail (Letter of Medical Necessity, etc.), email returns@bellehealth.co with your purchase details and we’ll send the documentation you need.
